The Wedding Ceremony

On the altar, arranged in the ordinary way, are placed a cup of corn and the wedding rings. Bride and bridegroom sit in the front row, the brides- groom at the right side of the bride. At the right of the bridesgoom sit the two best men and at the left of the bride the two bridesmaids. The service is held until after the sermon and the Cherag (standing in the center and facing the congregation) invites bridegroom and bride to rise.

Cherag to bridegroom: Do you ask for the hand of this maiden (or lady), offering in exchange your most sincere love?
Bridegroom: I do.
Cherag: Will you keep true to her, serve her, sympathize with her under all conditions throughout your life?
Bridegroom: I will.
Cherag: Will you consider this maiden (lady) who is your wife as the most sacred trust given to you by God?
Bridegroom: I will.
Cherag to the best men: Will you be witness to what .. has promised?
Each best man: I will.

Cherag to bride: Do you accept ... as your husband, sincerely, in devotion? Bride: I do.
Cherag: Will you keep true to him and sympathize with him under all conditions throughout your life?
Bride: I will.
Cherag: Will you consider this man who is your husband as the most sacred trust given to you by God?
Bridegroom: I will.
Cherag to the bridesmaids: Will you be witness to what .. has promised?
Each bridesmaid: I will.

The bride and bridegroom remain standing before the Cherag, but turn their faces to each other. The Cherag, holding the hands of both, repeats: "Toward the One,m the perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, united with all the illuminated souls who form the embodiment of the Master, the Spirit of Guidance.

I unite you both in marriage, one to another, that this link [the Cherag puts on the rings] may be an everlasting bond, asking for your good helath, long life, and prosperity. Happiness and the Blessing of God be with you for ever and evermore. Amen"

The Cherag says to the congegation: "Let us pray for them." The congregation rises while the bride and bridegroom kneel down facing the altar. The Cherag stands in the middle before the altar facing the bride and groom. The prayer is repeated:

"Oh Thou, the Creator, Lord, Master and Sustainer of our lives, pour Thy Love and Thy Light on this couple who marry under Thy divine protection. May the harmony of Thy divine nature unite them. May compassion kindle their hearts. Send on them Thy divine blessing, that they may be surrounded with good health, prosperity, success, and happiness. And may they glorify Thy Name now and for evermore. Amen."

Bride and groom rise. The Cherag gives them each a handful of corn, saying: "Pour the Seed of the Divine Message upon the world." The Cherag lays hands on the head of each, saying: "God bless you."

Then they rise and the Cherag says the prayer Khatum and gives the Blessing to the congregation.
