The Teaching of Hazrat Inayat Khan

There is a difference between belief and thought. One might say, "I am thinking every day I shall get well, but that does not come to pass." Yes, thought is one thing, belief is another. When you compare thought with belief, one is automatic, the other is more living. And when a person says, "I am thinking, or, I am practicing this every day, but I don't get any benefit", it only means that he is practicing one thing and believing another. He is practicing, "I shall be well", and he is believing, "I am ill." It may be his unconscious belief, but there is a belief: "This will not cure me, I shall continue to be ill"; and though he may be repeating a thousand times a day, "I shall be well, I shall be well", yet he does not believe it.
