Each religion has pictured heaven and hell according to familiar scenes upon earth, in whatever part of the world it might be. The heaven of the Hindu is an opera house. In it are the Upsaras and Gandharvas, the singers and dancers, and in their hell are snakes and scorpions, filth and worms.
